It should also be noted that new incentives for gas water heaters took effect January 24, 2013 and further changes will take effect for furnaces on February 24, 2013.
The New Jersey Clean Energy WARMAdvantage Program offers rebates on furnaces, boilers and water heaters with the objective of improving the efficiency of space heating and water heating systems. The program is currently available statewide to all New Jersey residents, (i.e., including users of oil, propane, and electric customers of municipal utilities) though at some points in the past eligibility has been limited to customers of the state's investor-owned natural gas and electric utilities. Measures must be installed as retrofits in existing homes; new construction does not qualify.
Residential Gas Customers: Gas furnaces, boilers, and water heaters can qualify for incentives of $300 to $500. A $1,200 rebate is available for Energy Star qualified solar domestic water heaters. For customers of Elizabethtown Gas, New Jersey Natural Gas, Public Service Electric and Gas, or South Jersey Gas boiler reset controls purchased on or after May 1, 2012 that meet the qualifying equipment and installation criteria and are installed on an existing non-condensing water boiler are eligible for a $175 rebate. For the purposes of this summary, propane customers are considered to be gas customers.
In order to be eligible for this program, applicants must be current residential gas customers of Elizabethtown Gas, New Jersey Natural Gas, Public Service Electric and Gas, or South Jersey Gas or use propane for heating purposes. Several of these utilities also offer supplemental incentives for residential space and water heating applications.
Residential Electric Customers: Energy Star qualified solar hot water heaters that replace or supplement an existing electric water heater are eligible for a flat incentive of $1,200 per system. This incentive is available to qualifying electric customers of Atlantic City Electric, Jersey Central Power & Light, Public Service Electric & Gas, or Rockland Electric as well as customers of the state's municipal electric utilities.
Oil Heating Customers: Energy Star qualified oil furnaces and oil boilers qualify for an incentive of $300.
